I started the Master of Marine Science and Management course at the University of Sydney in 2021. The initial course work explored a range of avenues within marine science and developed real-world skills that are applicable to current research and careers. The combination of interactive classes and fieldwork, in addition to MSI organised events, offered great networking opportunities. A big highlight of the coursework having amazing coastal locations as a classroom to gain hands-on practical experience.
The following year I conducted the research project (MARS5507 & MARS5508) on the responses of juvenile crown-of-thorns sea stars to chemical cues released by adult conspecifics. I thoroughly enjoyed completing my own research and it definitely pushed complete a PhD. The work from my Masters is currently in the process of being published! I am now enrolled in a PhD looking at the ecology of sympatric sea urchins in New South Wales with DPI fisheries to supply modern research to support management strategies.
